So most of you know by now that my Bestie Mr. Courtney K. moved to the Big Apple a little over 9 months ago..(Sniff Sniff)

And as you can see he is settling in just fine...

I think it's pretty safe to say that I am absolutely obsessed with these shoes.  Brace yourselves because you will get sick of seeing me in them!  

Okay on to today's FASHION FRIDAY..  You may notice that save for the tiny necklace around my neck I have absolutely no jewelry on.  I've been doing this more and more lately.. I toggle back and forth between days with tons of body garnish to days with absolutely nothing.  

Today I wanted the outfit to speak for itself..  I am always in awe when I see a well dressed woman walking down the street with nothing but her clothing.  I think that a lot of times myself included we think that if we throw on a bunch of chunky jewelry and super high platforms  then we are well dressed.. Not always the case.. lately you can find me out with nothing but a tank, jeans and strapy heels...And I adore it!

with all that said..

This is one of my absolute favorite tops.  I bought it at a garage sale for $10 bucks about 5 years ago and have never taken it off the hanger for fear of ruining it.  Yes I just said that I bought a top 5 years ago and have never worn it... Those days are over.. I have decided to wear it.. and I stand by my decision.

Some of you may remember this style of J Brands from about two years ago. To this day I think they are among the best styles that J Brand has made.  They are distressed to perfection yet almost white to perfection..  for me they are boyfriend perfection.

The Heels..Yeah... you've already heard enough about them..

BTW..my babies are doing so very well.  I finally found a shampoo that keeps them super white and is all natural.  It's called TropiClean. I use the Awapuh-Whitening Shampoo and the Conditioning Papaya Mist Cologne...and they ROCK!

Glowy?... Aloe Gloe

So for the past month I have been indulging in a little drink called Aloe Gloe..  

Let me tell you a very short story..  

My Grandmother Mamie Hansberry has always made Aloe Vera juice a part of her diet..she is 87 and she looks 67..  has never had any significant health issues and does not take one prescription pill.  

Okay that was the sort story...

Anyhow I tell you this to say that I have attempted to drink Aloe Vera juice for years. I just can't seem to get it down and I have a HUGE tolerance for stuff that does not taste so great especially when it has serious health benefits.  In the past few year several other companies have come out with Aloe Vera juice that is flavored which helps he taste..but does not help the slime and the pulp..which for me is the worst part..

Okay one more short story.. 

When  I was a little kid and would scrape my self or cut myself or fall off  my bike or fall face first off a bench at school..all true stories.. my  mom would cut a piece of her Aloe Vera plant slice it in two and rub the  slimy in side on my wound.  I would never scar..  

Now if Aloe Vera does that to your skin..imagine what it does for your insides..

Some Not So "Common Grains"

I know this may be hard to believe but I am not sure if I have ever actually mentioned that Japanese food is in my top two foods of all foods.  Just as French is my favorite for its rich creamy wonderfully seasoned qualities.. Japanese is my favorite for the exact opposite reason.. Japanese cuisine is simple yet wonderfully methodical, allowing you to actually taste the food you are eating without mask.

So when I was invited to try the wonderful creations of chef Sonoko Sakai for the Common Grains pop up restaurant at Bread Bar in Century City I was utterly elated.  I adore noodles..and I adore Japanese noodles even more..  The menu is simple.. Whole grain Soba noodles and dipping sauces.  A little salad...some rice and a tasty Sake selection.

It's simplicity at its best.. I had a chance to talk with Sonoko Sakai about the Common Grains program.. and it boils down to this.. Common Grains is an extraordinary program brought from the Japanese Government and Chef Sakai to bring awareness to the goodness of whole Japanese Grains.. In a nut shell...

These carbs ain't so bad!

The Common Grains will be hosting a bunch of demonstrations and workshops including the pop up Soba Noodle and Sake bar at Bread Bar Century City throughout the months of January and February.  

Here are a few that I think will be pretty cool.

Anyhow.. I got a couple inquires about my nails in last weeks FASHION FRIDAY.. So here is a little explanation of this weeks.  Very simple DYI.. I've been pretty obsessed with nude, taupe and buff colored nails lately.  But they can get a bit boring so I find simple embellishments like glittery polish to spice it up..

This week it's two coats of Butter  London Yummy Mummy.. wait to dry (I've made that mistake before).  Then paint diagonals of Nails Inc Chelsea Embankment 3/4th's from the corner of each nail (make sure to do the opposite corners on each hand).  Finish with a top coat..and DONE!

I've also been completely obsessed with big hair lately.. This is my attempt at it.. my hair is pretty fine..so three short clip-ins later and voila! I know what you are thinking...It was really big when I left the house..I swear..

Clip-in NOTE: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make sure that your clip-ins match the texture of your own hair. If you have to straighten your own hair..buy clip-ins that you have to straighten.. no one can ever tell when I do or don't have my clip ins in because I am a a stickler about texture when I by them.

An Olympic Hopeful and Some Bloggers.. Jason Richardson 2012

Last week I got a call from the awesome Claire of The Fashion Bomb Daily  saying "I'm in town and we are going to A party for Jason Richardson".   The last sentence being a serious paraphrase I believe the word swanky was somewhere in there.  Gotta love that word.. SWANKY.

Anyhow...after a quick Google session that involved the name Jason Richardson.  Gold medal winner and track star.. I said why not.. 

The crowd was awesome.. I ran into the lovely Marie Denee of The Curvy Fashionista,  Miss Melody Ehsani..check out her eclectic designs Here and Angel of Concrete Loop.. if you are a blogger and don't know her story..find out.   She is one to learn from!  

The drinks were great..  I would mention the food but I got a terrible case of food poisoning..like literally puking my guts up for about 15 hours straight..But since this is Stuff She Likes and I don't talk dirty I will leave it at that.

Anyhow..  Jason Richardson.. might be one of the nicest individuals I have ever met. Gracious and down to earth.  We had a snazzy little convo about how we are both self professed nerds since our school days and proud of it.  

We celebrated his bid for the London 2012 Olympics ..We mingled.. We laughed..and We snagged a lovely gift bag full of Nivea products.

Over all it was a great night!  Lets all root for Jason Richardson in 2012..

Now I have to say that there were lots of great looks at the Golden Globes last night.

Here's my take on them:

You know when you see a great dress at a shop and talk yourself into not getting it.. then you go home and can't sleep because you see it everywhere you look.. in the shower.. in the stack of papers on your desk.. in your plate of really amazing risotto.. in the dirty dish water.. in your sleep.. get the point yet?

..anyhow that what these 7 dresses did to me  all night.. I was pretty much haunted ..in a great way.. so I share my haunting with you..  

For me it was all about the nudes and the blacks..

No explanation needed.. The dresses speak for themselves!!

I'm going to make this short and sweet..  My $200 and something dollar Kenneth Jay Lane vs. my $5.99 Forever 21..

While we all love a nice shiny costume jewel..and lets be real.. although I adore him..The Kenneth Jay Lane version is a costume ..why is Forever 21 able to make the darn near same bracelet and sell it at $5.99.. which means they made it for 50¢ cents.. Granted I bought the KJL about 3 years ago...Not the point... definitely makes me scratch my head a little..

I know you are wondering which one is which.. no need to really know that.. it's the idea that counts..

I think it's pretty safe to say that I had a little shopping excursion at Zara over the holidays.. pretty much the only place I excurged... yes I just said excurged..

Being that most people are falling on pretty tight times..I told myself that this year that I would attempt to keep my spending to a minimum.  But how to do this without sacrificing quality?  

I am usually a high low mixer. Rarely do I wear all high or all low..  This year I am going to see how long I will last.  There are so many incredible options out there now..  

This little Pre-Spring put together..The top..the trousers..and the heels bought on sale was a whopping total of $119 bucks..  Does that make it any less awesome..NOPE!!  

EXPENSIVE does not always equal AWESOME.. 
  

The shoes make me smile...I've always been a mixer of silver and gold..so these were right up my alley..

On another note...This fabulous little Bracelet.. was given to me by my five year old  goddaughter Jordyn for Christmas.. She picked it out herself.. I adore it!!  Way  to go Jordy!!

Now that Christmas is over  ... and you have all those returns and gift cards at your disposal.. why not put them to use towards a

Longer lashes and thicker brows..

This is a post that has been about three months in the making..  as you may or may not realize here on STUFF SHE LIKES ..I do not post about any thing that I have not tried out on myself first..

I was gifted two very precious tubes if Revita products during New York Fashion week this past September.  I have to admit I was a skeptic.  I have super baby fine thin practically see through eyebrows that since I was old enough to wear make up have not left the house with out being filled in.. I mean not even to the gym.

So when the lovely rep at RevitaBrow and Revitalash told me that in 12 weeks I would see thicker fuller eyebrows and lashes I was like.."Yeah we will see"

 About 10 weeks later I am eating my words.

Seriously one day I looked in the mirror and was like whoa!!  I have eyebrows.  I have not filled them in since.  

..and my lashes.. super long and kinda furry like..  which is a good thing people ..

I say all this to say.. if you start now.. by spring you will be jumping for long lashes and thick eyebrowed joy.

It's well worth it!

If you haven't noticed I actually temporarily shortened this dress for the purposes of these looks. It's usually about 3 or 4 inches longer.. a little wardrobe tape goes a long way.

The double lined eye is my my favorite part of this look. Super simple to do and makes for a little surprise when you close your eyes..

and of course the vintage snake belted vest adds the slickness factor..

Make sure you are in a warm place when wearing this combo.. it's not a very wintery ensemble ..sacrifices we must make in the name of fashion..

This FASHION FRIDAY is pretty much a walking add for Zara..  I actually didn't realize that I was pretty much wearing Zara head to toe until I started writing this post a second ago.  The up side: At least I have a title now.  Thank Goodness for the Forever 21 tee and Kate Spade necklace.. Don't get me wrong..I Heart Zara like I heart good bitter sweet chocolate chip cookies warm out of the oven topped with ice cream and a little chocolate sauce..

whoa I just went to a whole other place..

The Blazer:  Pretty much a staple in the wardrobe since I got it about three weeks ago.. They still had them as of a week ago..in stores.. if you are online.. HERE is a similar one in brown..  I adore it because it's warm.

I give myself no more than a hour to pick the outfit, do my make up and hair.  It's easy to look "amazing" or "flawless" or "stunning" or "put together" or any of those fluffy adjectives when you have hours to get ready or a team to help you get ready. 

I pulled this off in an hour...My thought is that it may not be perfect... but it has my stamp..  that's super important..

BTW..The back of this dress is so very simple and special...

The Six ✩ So Over the Hill...

Six Burger / brioche bun / tomato / blue cheese / onion rings / butter lettuce / thousand island

Now being from L.A.  and I mean like from from L.A.  born and raised in the heart of the city..there has always been a little rivalry between us folks on opposite sides of the hill.  Does anybody remember the term "Valley Girl"?..

Anyhow.. I say all that to say that this is actually my very first post about a restaurant in the Valley..well Studio City to be exact. 

I got invited out to The Six...a super cute little restaurant nestled into a small "not quite shopping center".. "not quite shopping mall" area of studio city a couple weeks ago..  and I am so glad I went.

Not only is the food absolutely finger licking..the drinks are yum and the desserts...WHOA!!

In a nut shell..this is the menu..

6 starters...6 small plates..6 entrees and 6 sides

  ..hence the name The Six.... 

and here is just some of what I had...

Prince Edward Island Mussels / downtown brown / spinach / grilled bread

These drinks were totally delish..but unfortunately I don't remember what they were.. (Slaps wrist) Bad Blogger!!

Little note: I did not actually try the Banana Cream Pie because we all know I don't eat fruit..so I am taking the word of everyone else at the table that it was amazing...mostly taking the cue from their faces at they took a bite..That look was the look of pure ecstasy

So I thought it would be cool to post an outfit everyday until Christmas..being that there are so many Holiday parties..figuring out what to wear can be daunting.. not to mention trying to look different at each party.. if there was ever a time to maintain that "I must look different for the paparazzi every time attitude" .. the holidays are the time.. lets face it.. you are pretty much snapped in a photo everywhere you go..  

Thus the idea behind. Three Ways to Wear it.. 6 days til Christmas.. hopefully these posts will provide some inspiration..

It's always better in three's ✩ Amika..

Have you ever been in such anticipation of something arriving and knew it was coming but still acted like a kid in a candy store when it arrived?  

That was me the day my Amika Triple Barrel Curling Iron arrived..  I'm talking smile ear to ear..and savage tearing open of the package before the front door shut behind me.  

I am a hair and make up freak..which makes for an extremely junky bathroom.... Flat irons, hair dryers..combs for the hair dryers, diffusers for the hair dryers...

..and last but not least..Curling irons,  big ones..little ones..micro sized ones..old ones..new ones..ones that have been left at my house by friends..ones that I simply have no idea why or how they got here.  

as I said junky bathroom..

This is where the Triple Barrel Curler Set comes in to save the day!!  Okay maybe that's an exaggeration.. but it at least eases the mess.. (this is where I tell you that I have donated all those others to some curing iron deficient families).. I'm half way there..

Anyhow.. this post is not just about my junky bathroom..it's also about how amaze balls this curler set is..  Tourmaline..which in a nutshell is a gem that when heated produces negative ions that help smooth and seal the cuticle of the hair..

 aka  Makes your ish really shiny!

..and that it does..  Oh and my curls held up wayyy longer than they usually do.. Yay!

I was super excited to attend the Louis Verdad Spring/Summer 2012 runway show December 1st in West Hollywood..  not knowing what to expect is the best when you are subsequently blown away by what you see...I won't do much talking here.. except to say that I also had the opportunity to visit Louis in his downtown studio this past week for my upcoming video series and only an exceptional man can craft such exceptional art in the form of clothing..  Enjoy..

There's nothing like going to Forever 21 and finding a great pair of wool trousers for around $25 bucks.  I die!  They're comfy..They're  stylish..They're soft..they don't itch and are pretty much a staple on my body now that it's kinda cold.

My new favorite.. I takes me back to when I was too young to know how to read a proper watch. Digital. So lovely for the lazy brain.  I adore the size of this one.  It's a nice departure from the big over sized varieties I usually wear..

Holistic Luxury ✩ Sphatika NYC

All Natural..All healing..All Amazing..

There is nothing like spending a few hard days in NYC.. in and out of cabs..up and down the subways..fighting the elements all while trying to remain completely stylish and fabulous..sometimes the city actually wins that battle..

and when it does... Sphatika comes to the rescue.. 

When I first heard the name Sphatika.. 

I instantly thought of an amazing all knowing unstoppable gorgeous feminine super hero..

This my friends is right up there with it..

Not only is this place amazingly relaxing amongst the hustle and bustle of the city life..But the treatments and the products are divine. 

Back Story:

Sphatika was born out of health related issues of owner Janet League-Katzin.....issues that traditional western techniques were just not helping. I sat down and had a one on one with Janet and we talked about the importance of nature, crystals, holistic healing and healing ones self.  Believe me when I say she looks great from the inside out.

BTW  Janet and Sphatika were the recipients of  the 13th Annual Fashion Group International Rising Star Award in the  "Beauty/Fragrance Entrepreneur" category.  That's pretty awesome if ask me. 

Alright back to the spa.. 

After a wonderful in depth tour by Janet herself ..I was lead to a peaceful warm room where I was treated to one of the most relaxing facials of my life.  My skin was glowing.. so much so that I was asked if I had put my makeup back on..  Now that's a compliment that I could take all day..

Some of the highlights of Sphatika are the far infrared saunas, the detoxifying steam canopy and the lymphatic drainage facial.  

Sphatika is holistic Luxury at it's best.. you will leave knowing that you have added some time on that clock ..both inside and out..

This FASHION FRIDAY is a bit special because it marks the first shoot with these little guys. 

Back Story 

I agreed to take them this week after some JERK MONSTER JACKASS! (pardon my french) ..left them on the side of the freeway.  They were dirty, starved and in need of lots of love.. 

With all that said I ended up with the little rascals.  10 month old brother and sister Maltipoo's.

Meet Oliver and Madison..

It's a lot of work..but after just 5 days I have fallen in love.  I am still in the process of getting them everything they need.  I decided to start with the important stuff like food, chew toys, vitamins and treats.  Now I am searching for a carrier that can fit the both of them, cute little sweaters because they shiver from the cold, collars and leashes.

As soon as their hair grows back out (they had to be shaved because they were so dirty and matted) an immediate grooming session.  

If anyone knows any great deals on any of this stuff please pass it my way.. Doggy stuff is not cheap..

Alright..on to the outfit..

Jeans, a tee and a leather jacket.. pretty classic and pretty simple..Add leopard pumps and you are out the door.. You can always replace the leather with simple blazer too.

I've had these pumps for about 3 years.. proof you can't go wrong when you buy classics.

These jeans are awesome.. I got a bit over zealous and bought them even though they were a size to big.. but they are so dang comfy! They will just have to see a lot of the dryer.

I like to spice it up with some over the top jewels...and a red lip.. DONE!

Window shopping..It's that age old past time when you don't have the funds to be a princess but you can always pretend..

I had the chance to be a real live girl for a day..and bask in the beauty that is Pamellato..

When I woke up to an email a few weeks back inviting me to check out the bar/ lounge menu at WP24 I was super excited.  I've been trying to get there for dinner for months and every time I think it's going to happen something comes up.. Well not this time darnit.. 

From the moment I walked in I was super impressed.  Located on the top floor of the Ritz Carlton in downtown L.A. this place  seriously makes you feel like you are on top of the world.  The view, the decor and above all the food and drinks are all spectacular..and yes I just said Spectacular.  But honestly I had to ask myself... 

"Did I really expect less from the man who brought the world Spago?"

I sat at the bar and indulged in pretty much the entire lounge menu. Everything.. let me repeat!  EVERYTHING I had was ah-mazing.. and I'm not just saying that because I was starving like I had not seen food in two weeks..It's really freakin good.  Then again this is Stuff She Likes and I would never tell you guys about a place if it wasn't yummers! 

Anyhow ..here's a bit of what I stuffed my little round face with that Wednesday evening as the sun set over downtown Los Angeles.

Hamachi Crunch Roll / Cucumber / Tempura Crunch / Chili Aioli

Baby Pork Belly “Bao Buns

By the way..in addition to all the a la Carte lounge options WP24 offers a 3  course tasting menu for $24 bucks and drinks for $8 bucks everyday from 5pm-7pm..check it out HERE.

It's Black Friday people.. so I'm going to make this short and sweet..  

The Jewels...  Maria Angela Perna..I met her...I saw her stuff...and I fell in lust!!!!!  She has designed for everybody including.. you ready for this... Chanel, Alexander McQueen, Chloe.. Yes the majors.. And her own stuff is AMAZE-BALLS with a capital A!  This necklace series is amongst my favorites.. I can't stop wearing them!!

On to the other little goodie in the FASHION FRIDAY..   The Alice and Olivia Faux Fur cropped deliciousness.  Seriously.. its super soft and super warm and looks so real that when I walked into Cafe Gratitude last week with it on..I got a couple evil "how could you" stares from the hard core Vegans..  True Story!

The J brands.. I scooped these up  last year from their factory outlet downtown .. See last years post about the outlet here

They pretty much make you look like you are ten feet tall.. and have mega stretch.. which I'm adoring these days being that I have gobbled up a few too many cupcakes in the last couple weeks.  Hey it's getting cold..comfort food!

Anyhow I hope that your Thanksgiving was just fantastic yesterday..

Picture this ..I have a pretty solid non routine/routine in the morning..  I wake up and the first thing I do while still laying in bed is check my email and read my horoscope.  There's no rhyme or reason to it..it's just what I do.  Anyhow.. at least once a week I wake up to this..

Anyhow.. I don't do much cooking these days..so I live vicariously through this kitchen..

This just makes me want to get on a stair stepper and never get off.

Dear J-lo,

I understand that you are immensely creative, talented, determined, strong willed and beautiful ..but can you take a rest for goodness sake. YOU ARE MAKING THE REST OF US LOOK FREAKING LAZY! I mean seriously.. must you keep your body in ridiculous shape AND put out awesome music AND dance so well AND have babies AND travel the world AND always have flawless make up, all while simultaneously having two great performances and showing everybody up with that amazing lace gown at this past Sundays American Music Awards.. Sheesh... Other than that I adore you!

You may not always "Like" everything she wears...but she is a perfect example  of a woman who knows how to dress for her body. Dear lord I need to get back in the gym..
